If youre unsure, you can always give one an exploratory taste. Great easy access hike to a great lookout. Can hike down around the lookout to the base of the walls and climb top rope mostly. There are a few sport and trad routes you can do that I've found so far. Definitely a few fun climbing walls and short hikes to them. My friend jokes it's just her outside gym. Beautiful trails and hikes, very scenic. King's Pinnacle is a moderately strenuous hike, but so worth the view.

I'll definitely be making more visits here. Need to spend some money here, better trail signage needed, better maps, replace damaged or missing signs, and at least some staff available to visitors. Go Back. They told me a few things. First, they said when they close the park they have to wait for 40 cars to leave before they open the parking again yes, they want 40 open parking spaces to reopen the parking.

I visit the park regularly. I have been there most weekends in the last few months. I have NEVER seen a ranger in the park anywhere but at the entrance to the parking lot turning people away and when they are doing this they setup 5 to 10 people with trucks and four wheelers, in uniforms with guns to tell people to go away. So, ten rangers at the entrance telling people to leave.

Zero visible rangers actually in the park, on the trails. Second, 40 open spots to start letting people in, seriously??? And they tell you this like it is a Federal Law and somehow reasonable. If someone drives an hour to visit the park, arrives and there are ten open parking spaces it is insane, disgraceful, illogical, inappropriate, inconsiderate — not sure how to describe it — for a ranger, knowing there are a lot of open spaces, to tell that person the park is full and send the person away.

If there are 35 open space, that is so terrible. If there are open spaces they should let visitors in. Crowders itself is great. If you are planning a trip on a nice weekend, be prepared to have your trip spoiled though … you may get turned away and if you get turned away you can be nearly certain there are a ton of open parking spaces sitting empty. It seems that because more people are visiting the park the rangers in control have resorted simply to turning people away and creating nonsensicle policies rather than just being a little more creative and flexible in order to accommodate everyone who wishes to visit the park.

They are not even trying. Without adding any additional parking which there is plenty of room and resources to do without no additional paving, etc. Someone with some common sense and respect for the public needs to take over responsibility for Crowders. Great hike and beautiful views. I went with my wife to Crowders Mountain State park on a Saturday partial cloudy day. We reached there at 12 PM. This is extremely popular hike, and the main parking lot was full. We parked in a overflow parking lot close to it.

We took the Turnback Trail and then the pinnacle trail to reach the summit. Turnback trail is moderate 1. Its about.

Its been long since we did a hike, and because of all the fallen leaves , the path was quite slippery at places. I would strongly suggest hiking shoes to be safe if you plan to reach the summit. I believe it took us minutes to reach the summit. The views are wonderful. You can clearly see Charlotte's skyline on the east side. The summit is a great place to watch sunrise and sunset both as you pretty much have a panoramic view from there. We didn't stay long for sunset though.

We had our lunch on the summit, relaxed and then started way back. The park facilities are very good. Bathrooms are clean and they have a vending machine at the back side of visitor center. Would certainly go again and try different trails.

This is a well-traveled hiking spot. I would recommend going on a week-day or off-season September-April. I might be a little biased since I live on the foothill of Crowders, but nevertheless, Crowders offers many vantage points with beautiful views, a labyrinth of trails which provide different experiences each time you go, and probably the best thing about Crowders is that ANYBODY can hike it!

I'm not saying it's easy for everybody, but you can take your kids, your dogs, even your grandparents and everyone can make the hike all the way up the Pinnacle Trail, that is. The Rock Top Trail is a little tougher and longer. Seems like every time I go up there are people with a single bottle of water wishing they had prepared more Janice J 2 contributions. Strenuous, but well worth the effort! We enjoyed the Pinnacle Hike and trekking up the backtrail to the Crowder Mountain overview.

This is a great stop for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Durga Priya A 25 contributions. My husband and I have been hiking in Crowders mountain state park every weekend this summer and we are loving it! We take the Crowders trail - walk 2. If you're in and around Charlotte, this place has good options for moderate to strenuous trail routes. IronButterfly Charlotte, NC 88 contributions.

We took the orange trail up 2. The fantastic view from the top is well worth the hike up! From the top, it is possible to see the Appalachian mountains to the west, as well as all of the surrounding forest and land. Looking down into the woods, especially in winter time and seeing the different types and densities of trees was neat.

The orange trail up takes you through a fun boulder field. Tons of dogs, but I had no issue with them, all but one were leashed and the lone unleashed dog wasn't interested in humans. I am definitely going to do this trail again in the spring and summer!
