Trying to get it in there, frazzles the end of the wick which further makes it impossible to get it into the hole. Worked just fine- you really have to repack the!

Step 2 Using scissors or wire cutters trim the wick. Step 1 First, remove all components from the bottom of the lighter insert; flint screw, felt pad, packing material, and the old wick. Step 2 To replace the wick, insert a new wick either downward through the chimney or through the bottom of the lighter insert. Step 3 Next, bend the top portion of the wick over the chimney to hold it on place during assembly. Step 4 Then, carefully reinstall the packing material in the same order it was taken out.

During that period, all Zippo lighters produced went to the Allied war effort.
In fact, during the conflict, since brass was needed for weapon systems, the interiors of zippos were primarily stainless steel. Following the war, Zippo reverted to the traditional brass design. Additionally, Zippo lighters are known for the lifetime guaranty they carry: if a Zippo breaks down, no matter how old, the company will replace or repair the lighter for free.

But after less than two weeks time they have all gone empty with absolutely no use. However the bic that I found on the ground and threw in my bag 5 years ago still lights every time. So could someone please tell me the point of carrying a high maintenance unreliable item for something as important as starting a fire? Or if I'm doing something wrong please advise. Reply 3 years ago. Don't put fluid in it until you need it. Pretty simple solution. You can even buy a small fluid canister from Zippo to keep with your lighters.
Reply 7 weeks ago. The best way I have found to stop the fuel evaporating through lack of use is insulating tape electrical. If your hungry you can chew it, if a bear attacks you can tape his mouth shut and then just cuddle him to death!
Reply 5 years ago. Simply no fluid until you want to use it, if it didn't evaporate it wouldn't be flammable.
